Department of Basic Sciences and Humanities

Basic Sciences and Humanities (BS&H) department aims at providing a comprehensive knowledge of basic scientific principles, mathematical tools and developing the personalities of their students in every sphere of life. The department was established in November, 1993.  The courses offered by the department are on Mathematics, Applied Physics, Chemistry, English, Pakistan Studies and Religious Studies; and cover about 30% of the Engineering Curriculum. To inculcate quality education highly qualified permanent faculty is employed. There are 21 faculty members in the department out of which 10 hold PhD degrees.

  The curriculum focuses primarily on the development of the fundamental tools that are essential for all engineering majors and strives to provide a strong foundation, which allows the students to cope up with the basic mathematical and physical concepts of engineering educations.  The syllabus has been designed to enrich the students’ understanding towards the subjects with a view to helping them in encountering practical problems in their engineering careers.

The department of Basic sciences & Humanities (BS&H) welcomes you all. As per Higher Education commission (HEC) policy and Pakistan Engineering council (PEC) criteria, the subjects of BS&H constitute nearly 30% of curriculum at undergraduate level of Electrical, Mechanical, Computer and Mechatronics Engineering. The faculty of this department teaching the basic sciences courses which includes physics, chemistry, various courses of math’s, English, communication skills, Technical/business writing, professional ethics, Pakistan studies and Islamiat. The faculty is qualified and experienced. They are actively involved in research work also. They are contributing remarkably in research profile of college and hence the NUST. Moreover, this department is engaged in distinguished literary society named as SPAL “society for promotion of art and literature” with the contribution of other departments.
